Honoring our 2025 Hunger Action Champions

Written by Cara Durr | Sep 19, 2025 5:30:00 AM
Each year, Food Bank of Alaska nominates a select group of Hunger Action Champions: individuals, businesses, and organizations that have made an extraordinary impact in the fight against hunger across our state.

These champions have demonstrated profound commitment to providing support, resources, and advocacy for our mission to combat hunger and food insecurity in Alaska.

From generous donors and dedicated volunteers to partner agencies on the front lines and policymakers driving meaningful change, we are proud to recognize this year’s honorees:

Paula Green

Mountain View Mobile Food Pantry

Paula and her team have been faithfully running the Mountain View Mobile Food Pantry for many years, showing up every Friday night in rain, snow, or shine to ensure families have food on their tables.

Ola Williams

Willow Community Food Pantry

Ola recently retired after more than a decade of service leading the Willow Community Food Pantry and coordinating a Thanksgiving Blessing site. Her leadership and compassion have made a lasting impact, ensuring families could count on both nutritious food and community care.

Dave Patterson

Thanksgiving Blessing site at St. Patrick’s

For 25 years, Dave has led the Thanksgiving Blessing site at St. Patrick’s, bringing both dedication and creativity to the event, including his tradition of showing up in a kilt. To celebrate his 25th year, he has set an ambitious goal of distributing 2,025 boxes in 2025, a testament to his passion for serving families with dignity.

Global Credit Union

For nearly 25 years, Global Credit Union has been a steadfast partner in the fight against hunger. Their long-running Cash for Cans food drive, consistent volunteering, and steady support for senior programs have made a lasting difference. Whether donating, packing boxes, or showing up with positive energy, Global’s team has been part of our family.

Dan and Linda McMahon

Linda and Dan McMahon have been champions in the fight against hunger for more than a decade. From sorting food and organizing drives to supporting fundraising behind the scenes, they are as much a part of this warehouse as our own staff. Their deep personal connection to the mission continues to inspire generosity across the community.

Rich Jackson

First Presbyterian Church of Anchorage

For over 30 years, First Presbyterian Church has stood alongside us in the fight against hunger. Their congregation supports through both giving and volunteering, with dozens of members joining our monthly senior box builds. Deacon Rich Jackson has been a faithful leader in coordinating these efforts, rallying over 25 volunteers since the pandemic to serve neighbors in need.

Tani Kron

For 12 years, Tani has been the heart of the ConocoPhillips food drive, which has grown into our largest and most impactful drive. It now provides nearly 500,000 meals every year to Alaskans. Beyond this achievement, Tani also lends her time and insight as a dedicated Food Bank of Alaska board member.

Tracy Kalytiak

 Mat-Su Health Foundation

As a Program Officer with the Mat-Su Health Foundation, Tracy has been a true champion for food security in the region. Through her vision and dedication, she has strengthened resources for families and reinforced the network of support that keeps Alaskans nourished. Her efforts continue to ripple across the Mat-Su.

Steve Worthington

Chugiak-Eagle River Food Pantry

Steve is retiring after decades of service to the Chugiak Eagle River Food Pantry. A true pillar of his community, he has dedicated his time and heart to helping countless families. His legacy of compassion and commitment will inspire long after his retirement. Recognition was accepted on his behalf by Dave Wachsmuth.

Sarah Carver and Leigh Dickey

Alaska Legal Services

Leigh and Sarah have been dedicated advocates for fairness and dignity by leading SNAP fair hearings for public assistance. Their work has ensured that families across Alaska have a voice in the process and access to the resources they need. Recognition was accepted on their behalf by Maggie Humm, Executive Director of Alaska Legal Services Corporation.

At Food Bank of Alaska, we are deeply grateful for the remarkable work of our 2025 Hunger Action Champions. Their dedication and support have been invaluable in advancing our mission to combat hunger. We are making a difference together, one meal at a time.
