In Alaska, the cost of shipping can mean the difference between an empty table and a holiday meal. That is why in-kind support from companies like Matson, TOTE Maritime Alaska, Lynden, and Weaver Brothers is so critical. Their leadership ensures that food keeps flowing across our state, no matter the distance.
In FY25, donated freight brought more than 2 million pounds of food into Alaska. Matson’s contributions have been vital, helping deliver food for our annual Thanksgiving Blessing (which marked its 20th year in 2024) and stepping forward this year to support a $1.5 million state grant that distributed food to partner agencies statewide.
“Matson has a long-standing commitment to support the communities we serve. Our cash donations and in-kind shipments for the Food Bank of Alaska help reduce food insecurity across the state.”
Vic Angoco, Senior Vice President, Matson Alaska
TOTE Maritime Alaska’s steady commitment makes sure both purchased food and in-kind donations from groups like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continue to arrive in Alaska. And in the last mile, partners like Lynden and Weaver Brothers deliver that food into the hands of Food Bank of Alaska’s agency partners, where it becomes meals for families.
Our transportation partners are the quiet force behind Alaska’s anti-hunger network. They do more than keep freight moving. They help keep our communities nourished.
Special thanks to our in-kind donors whose food and freight support helps keep Alaskans nourished. The partners named here represent just a few of the many organizations who make this work possible.
