In a season when donations usually dip, the Seahawks, Carrs Safeway, and Gray Digital Media helped rally Alaskans to fight summer hunger.
Through the “Give to Game” promotion and a special Seahawks volunteer day at Food Bank of Alaska’s warehouse, $12,000 was raised, enough to provide 24,000 meals to families and individuals across the state.
This support came at a critical moment. Summer is always a tough season for hunger relief. Kids are out of school, grocery prices remain high, and utility bills spike. This year, those pressures were compounded by recent changes to federal nutrition assistance programs, including SNAP.
No matter your politics, the outcome is the same: when people lose access to food, communities hurt. But when people show up, like they did for this campaign, it makes a real difference.
“It was both incredibly inspiring and deeply humbling to be part of an effort that helps feed Alaska's youth,” said Lauren Magiera, Director of Marketing at Gray Digital Media. “Seeing the impact firsthand reminded us of the importance that when a community comes together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
The volunteer day was a full-team effort. Seahawks players, staff, and Blitz the mascot joined Carrs Safeway team members at the Food Bank of Alaska warehouse to pack boxes for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), which provides monthly groceries to low-income seniors.
“Food Bank of Alaska is a phenomenal leader and collaborating organization in their efforts to keep Alaskans food secure,” said Sara Osborne of Carrs Safeway. “Beyond food distribution, they are exceptional advocates for federal food assistance, partners in supporting locally sourced products, and will soon manage an impactful statewide nutrition program. Carrs Safeway is humbled to be their retail partner and gladly shone a light on their great work at the Seahawks volunteer day and Alaska News Source ‘Give to Game’ fundraiser.”
And the Winner Is…
