Volunteer Spotlight: U.S. Navy Sailors Volunteer During Navy Week

During Anchorage Navy Week, a group of U.S. Navy sailors traded ships for shelf-stable meals and rolled up their sleeves to serve at Food Bank of Alaska.
These men and women packed hundreds of food boxes for our neighbors facing hunger and brought serious energy to the sort room.
Their visit was part of a larger nationwide initiative to strengthen connections between the Navy and the communities they serve. In Alaska, that spirit of service showed up loud and clear.
“This is about more than just volunteering. It’s about supporting people, meeting needs, and being part of something bigger than yourself,” said one sailor during the shift.
We’re grateful to the Navy team who chose to spend part of their Anchorage visit with us. Moments like these remind us how much power there is in collaboration and shared purpose, whether you’re from down the street or across the country.
To the sailors who served with us during Navy Week: thank you for your service, your time, and your heart. Anchorage was lucky to have you. 🤎
